Dimitri Tsoumpas has joined Strive Fitness and Athletics to train some of the top football athletes in province. Our centrally located 58,000 square foot facility is the perfect training environment to train like a champion! Here is a bit of Dimitri’s background:

Pro path

Calgary selected Tsoumpas in the first round (second overall) of the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft and signed him on May 1, 2008. The Edmonton native was chosen with a pick acquired in a draft-day trade with the Eskimos. He attended training camp with the National Football League’s Miami Dolphins in 2010 before rejoining the Stampeders.

2010

After attending training camp with the National Football League’s Miami Dolphins, Tsoumpas rejoined the Stampeders in August and made his season debut on Aug. 7 against the BC Lions. He made every start the rest of the way, including the West final, at right guard and earned West Division and CFL all-star recognition. Tsoumpas was part of an offensive line that paved the way for the league’s most proficient running game and provided excellent protection for the league’s second-ranked passing attack. The Stamps led the league in rushing yards per game (145.4), rushing first downs (162) and allowed the second-fewest sacks (30).

2009

For the second time in as many seasons, Tsoumpas was the starter at right guard for Calgary for all 18 regular-season games and two playoff contests. He and left tackle Ben Archibald were the only two Stampeders offensive linemen to start every game in 2009. Tsoumpas was named a West Division all-star and was Calgary’s nominee for the Most Oustanding Canadian award. He was part of an offensive line that allowed the Stampeders to rank second in offensive yards from scrimmage. Calgary was first in rushing offence and running back Joffrey Reynolds won his second consecutive league rushing title.

2008

Exceptionally advanced for a rookie straight out of college, Tsoumpas was a starter at right guard for all 18 regular-season games as well as for the West final and the Grey Cup. He joined fellow 2008 draftee Jesse Newman as part of Calgary’s all-rookie tandem at guard. Instead of getting fatigued and tailing off at the end of the gruelling 18-game pro season, Tsoumpas actually grew stronger in the second half. He was a pillar in the Stamps offensive line that was among the league leaders in average rushing yards per game (134.6), average rushing yards per carry (6.4) and fewest sacks allowed (30), which helped to pave the way for the CFL’s leading rusher Joffrey Reynolds (1,310 yards). Tsoumpas started both playoff games and helped to block for 117 rushing yards in the Grey Cup contest against Montreal. He was the Stampeders nominee for the CFL’s outstanding rookie award.

Career highlights

Made his CFL debut June 26, 2008, against BC

Has been a starter for each of his 53 games, including playoffs, in the CFL

Calgary’s nominee for the league’s outstanding rookie in 2008

Calgary’s nominee for Most Outstanding Canadian in 2009

West Division all-star in 2009 and 2010

Named a CFL all-star in 2010

Started all 18 games as a rookie as well as the West final and Grey Cup

College

Tsoumpas started every game during his senior season for the Weber State Wildcats and was selected to the 2007 Big Sky Conference Second Team. He was a key contributor on a Wildcats offensive line that allowed the fewest quarterback sacks in the conference. He helped anchor the right side of the offensive line that helped running back Trevyn Smith lead the BSC in rushing for the second consecutive year. He joined Weber State as a true freshman and was part of the starting lineup until sidelined by injury. Tsoumpas earned Honourable Mention All-Big Sky Conference honours in 2006.

Notable

Tsoumpas, who resides in Calgary year-round, is the Stampeders’ spokesman for CUPS Health and Education Centres. He is the second player selected by the Stamps from Weber State, joining former offensive lineman Bruce Covernton. He was part of three-straight city championship teams for Edmonton’s Strathcona Composite high school.

It’s hard to believe but it’s that time of year again to register for our spring and summer Total Power sport training program at our Strive High Performance Sport Training Centre. Located just off Memorial Drive, this 58,000 square foot facility has a 10,000 weight room, three turf fields and a full size basketball court. Click here to register or for more information: http://www.strivefitness.ca/?page_id=8. Because of the unbelievably high demand this year, we are limiting the total number of participants to ensure all of our groups needs are met. Contact me directly now at (403)815-5998 to register. We have also added two new components to the program this year, Sport Yoga as well as Combative Training at no additional cost. Program participants will also have extended access to the facility before and after their sessions, making it easier for them to remain focused on their goals.

Train Like an All Canadian…

Our Strive expert coaches understand the physiological and movement skills demanded in sport. At Strive, we believe the foundation of success comes through our Assess, Coach and Educate approach to athletic development.

Assess

Prior to starting a new training program, we test athletes to establish a performance baseline and to set individualized training programs to improve skills and help them achieve specific performance goals. Throughout their training, we test our athletes to measure their performance improvements and track their progression. Our athlete evaluation process allows us to measure performance results, to set new testing standards. Our extensive database of test and performance information allows athletes to compare their scores on our standardized tests against their peers. Athletes are able to conduct search comparisons by geography, gender, age or sport to see where they rank.

Coach

It’s all about coaching. Strive has assembled some of the top, most experienced coaches in the country to develop the best athletes possible. Education and experience are married together at Strive. Our coaching staff members have had a hand in developing some of today’s top professional athletes. Many of which were only 12 years of age when starting on their journey. If you want to excel at your sport, Strive is the place for you!

Educate

Thousands of athletes have taken advantage of our individualized sport-specific training programs to enhance their speed, power, and agility to gain more than just a step on their competition. Our athletes go through comprehensive programs to enhance their performance, biomechanics, strength, cardio fitness, recovery, and sports nutrition and are taught how their body works and how to maximize their athletic potential.

Several Calgary Associations have chosen to train with Strive Fitness and Athletics the season. Here is a letter from a head coach, sent to the rest of their association:

Hello all,

Sport helps shape our moral fabric and provides us the chance to make positive friendships that last a lifetime. Sport also gives kids a method of focusing energy in a positive manor by teaching them to work hard, set goals and experience the challenges that sport has to offer. Unfortunately, some kids and their families do not have the financial means to participate in programs that will lay the foundation necessary for them to reach their true potential. Many of these same kids lack to positive role models and environment to keep them out of trouble.

The Strive Athletic Foundation of Calgary, not for profit society, was formed to provide a forum for kids to develop physically, socially and emotionally. With your help, we can provide kids with the programs necessary to become positive and productive members of society. If you or your company can help us financially in shaping our youth, please contact our Executive Director, Anton Joseph at (403) 815-5998 or via email at antonj@strivefitness.ca.
